Antalya Metropolitan Mayor Muhittin Böcek said that he realized his dream of the Yörük Festival and said, "We will declare Antalya the capital of the nomads."
Antalya Metropolitan Municipality International Antalya Yörük Türkmen Festival started its third day with colorful and exciting shows. The Yörük Festival, which takes place in a festive mood with war games, folk dances from the Turkic World, Bard Duets, Central Asian Turkish Music, Mounted Archery Performances, Local Artists, Kaşkay Folk Songs, continues to attract great attention from the citizens.
I Realized My Dream
Antalya Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Muhittin Böcek often visits the tents in the festival area. Mayor Böcek evaluated the three-day festival and stated that he brought this event to life and made his dream come true, “History is written by those who realize their dreams, not those who dream. I am a nomad child. We also know how to beat buttermilk. I always helped my late mother. I went to the very old days. I got emotional. Our festival is going very well. It's getting full. I would like to thank everyone who contributed from home and abroad. We met here together with our brothers, including our Turkic Republics. I would like to thank all the Yörük Türkmen Association Presidents from different parts of my country, the employees of our 11 metropolitan municipalities, our friends from our 26 district municipalities and their administrations.”
Antalya Will Become a Nomadic Capital
Stating that 98 academicians from related universities organized a Nomadic Culture Workshop within the scope of the festival, Mayor Böcek said that they will declare Antalya the capital of the Nomads and that an initiative has been made on the subject. Mayor Böcek, thanking the statesmen, ambassadors, ministers and deputy ministers who contributed in this context, said, “We will meet at a common point together. We will continue to develop this Yörük Türkmen Festival in Antalya. The World Turkish Community will always be together with our Turkish citizens and our nomadic friends.”
13 Different Exhibitions
In addition, 13 different exhibitions were held during the 3 days of the Yörük Festival. Kötekli Nomads Association "Nomadic Culture Ethnography Exhibition", Nomadic Culture Application and Research Center "Traditional Turkish Instruments Exhibition", Ankara Mounted Archery Sports Club "Ancient Turkish War Equipment and Photographs Exhibition", Turkey Azerbaijan Friendship Associations Federation - Antalya Azerbaijan Association "Hocalı Exhibition" ”, International Organization of Turkish Culture “Gagauzia Photography Exhibition”, Yıldız Kalkan “Last Nomads Sarıkeçililer Photography Exhibition”, Nuri Sezen “Nomadic Culture Painting Exhibition”, Retired Naval Colonel Sedat Akkuş “Mediterranean Portolons (Harbour Maps) From Piri Reis's Book Exhibit ”, Demirören News Agency Antalya Forest Fires Photo Exhibition, Turkish Quarries “Artillery Captain Mustafa Ertuğrul Aker Exhibition”, Antalya Cultural Heritage Association “KIRKAMBAR Project Exhibition”, Antalya Urban Studies Center “Antalya Photographs from Archive to Daylight Exhibition”, Antalya Urban Studies Center “ Citizens visiting the “Atatürk Exhibition in Antalya” festival area was visited with interest.
Workshop Held
Within the scope of the 3-day festival, Nomadic culture was also discussed scientifically. The International Nomadic Türkmen Painting Workshop and Exhibition was held under the curatorship of Associate Professor Mehmet Sağ with the participation of academics and artists from 10 different countries. Turkish World Meddah Tradition and Storytelling Workshop, International Antalya Yörük and Turkism Studies Science and Art Congress were held. Retired President of the Turkish Language Association Prof Dr Ahmet Bican Ercilasun, Hacettepe University Prof Dr Özkul Çobanoğlu, State Artist Dr Mehmet Özbek, UNESCO Turkey National Commission President Prof Dr Öcal Oğuz, Yeditepe University Ahmet TAĞIl and Turkic World Studies Foundation President Közhan Yazgan took place as the guest of honor in the International Antalya Nomadic and Turkish Studies Science and Art Congress.

President of the Turkish Tribes Confederation Durhasan Koca thanked the Mayor of Antalya Metropolitan Municipality Muhittin Böcek for the festival with a declaration signed by the Chairman of the Yörük Türkmen Tribes Association Abdil Yıldırım and the representatives of the associations and federations participating in the festival. In the statement, “The International Antalya Yörük Türkmen Festival, organized by our Antalya Metropolitan Municipality between 6-8 May 2022, brought together the confederations, federations, associations serving the Yörük Türkmen culture operating in our country, as well as Turkish representatives and Turkish representatives from all over the world.
